Afaseya Lorekeeper's Record

Lorekeeper's Record

Translated from a damaged scripture believed to have been copied from an older Afaseyan manuscript.

“Of Afaseya we preserve only fragments. The oldest records were already ancient when our order received them, and much was lost during the crossing from that land. Names of kings have vanished, borders are remembered differently by every surviving account, and entire generations remain known to us only through burial prayers and broken family records.

What can still be stated with confidence is that Afaseya was the first homeland of mankind. Great dynasties ruled there, monasteries were raised beyond their cities, and its people cultivated lands whose plants and beasts were later carried with the refugees into Varchia.

Then came the ruin.

Some texts speak of mountains opening and fire rising from beneath the earth. Others give no cause at all, describing only a calamity after which remaining upon Afaseya became impossible. I have found no surviving account old enough to settle this dispute.

The refugees carried little history with them. They carried what could survive: their children, their faith, seeds, animals, heirlooms, and the names of their dead.

Thus we Lorekeepers must accept an uncomfortable truth: much of Afaseya is not forgotten because no one cared to remember it. It is forgotten because those who escaped were concerned first with surviving.”
